SCMG Project Grants

Mini-grants to support horticulture-related education projects in Story County are available. Proposals are accepted year-round but must be received at least one month before desired start of project. Successful proposals will:
  • Provide specific educational benefits to Story County citizens
  • Encourage and/or demonstrate environmentally sound horticultural practices
  • Include resource contribution (time/money/materials) from applicant(s)
  • Examples of projects that could be funded include (but are not limited to):
    • School-based or preschool-based gardens
    • Summer garden camps
    • Horticulture resources for libraries

Proposal Requirements:

  • Proposals may include requests for dollars, materials, and/or time
  • Proposals are accepted year-round but must be received at least one month before desired start of project
  • Proposals are reviewed by a committee of SCMGA members within a month after they are received
  • Successful applicants will be expected to give appropriate public credit to SCMGA and to provide a written report (with photos if appropriate)
    • Application should include the following information:

      • Name
      • Phone number
      • E-mail for one contact person plus name of organization and any partners

      Project description and justification

      1. What is the project?
      2. What is the educational component of this project?
      3. How will the project benefit Story County citizens?
      4. How many people will benefit?
      5. Where is the project located?
      6. What is the project time frame?
      7. What help is requested from SCMGA?
      8. What is applicant providing to support this project? (Include a budget if requesting dollars and/or a detailed list of tasks if requesting Master Gardener consulting/teaching/speaking time.)
      9. Why should SCMGA support this project?
