Home Demonstration Garden Field Day

The Home Demonstration Garden Field Day will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Farm two miles east of Gilbert. The public is invited to learn about growing vegetables, tour the farm and enjoy homemade ice cream.

First Annual All-Horticulture Field Day

This opportunity will showcase research projects being conducted at the station in all areas of horticulture. Concurrent sessions will allow you to learn more about specific areas of horticulture and to network with others in the “growing” horticulture industry.

Special areas of interest will highlight vegetable production, apple, grape, and small fruit production and wine tasting, lawn and turf management, urban tree development, landscape design and installation, organic horticulture, and farm pond and surface water management.

MG Presents a Crabapple Fruit Tour

Many people already know the lovely blossom display crabapples put on in the spring. Did you know they also provide a colorful fall and winter show? Join Dr. Jeff Iles on a crabapple fruit tour at the ISU Horticulture Research Farm just east of Gilbert. The 60 to 90 minute walking tour of the crabapple trials will highlight the growth habit, disease resistance, and fruit quality of crabapples. The first trees in this trial were planted in 1985.

After the tour, join the ISU Horticulture Club's Fall Festival also at the Hort Farm. The Fall Festival is from 11:00 to 4:30 and includes apple related demonstrations, apple and pumpkins sales, kids' pumpkin painting, and tours of the farm.
